Last blog was all about understanding how self-limiting beliefs are created, how they affect us and what is the first step that we can take to start breaking free of them.
Just for revision, let me repeat that the 1st step to shatter beliefs or viewpoints affecting us negatively or are responsible for eliciting stressful emotional responses, is to become Aware about them. We got to pen down all those limiting beliefs. Once we are ready with the list, following are the steps we can take.
# Interrogate the beliefs:
Does “something always happens” which comes in the way of our success and us? Perhaps we secretly believe “unworthy” of that success. Do you get uncomfortable if you are around other people? Perhaps you believe you are inferior in some or the other way, or that other people are unfriendly and unapproachable.
To root down to the belief that is responsible for our negative feelings or behaviors, we need to ask ourselves:
* “Is this belief based on an actual fact or an assumption or a false conclusion?”
* “Is there a rational reason for such a belief?”
* “Why should I continue to act and feel as if this were true if there is no good reason to believe it?”
Think hard on these questions. Do not just give a passing thought. We have to convince our subconscious mind through reasoning that there is no reason to keep sticking to the belief which is so harmful.
#Investigate and Analyze the incoming messages:
There is an overload of remarks, advice, suggestions, information from people, surroundings and media. It is the job of our rational, conscious mind to discern what is right or wrong. Investigate and analyze all the incoming messages, to accept only those that are true and reject those that are untrue.
It happens sometimes that we get bowled over by the chance remark of a friend, such as “You look dull today, something is wrong with your dress up.” Likewise, if we face some rejection or judgment, we blindly swallow the so-called fact that this means we are an inferior person. Most of us are subjected to negative suggestions every day. If our conscious mind is alert, we do not have to accept them blindly.
“It is not necessarily so!!!” is a great motto to repeat when we encounter such situations.
#Keep a check on moment-to-moment Self-talk:
Every thought we think and words we speak are the blueprints of our future. Be mindful about it. Smash the negative statements we repeat to ourselves with opposite positive and empowering statements.
#Install Rational and Empowering Beliefs:
When we make up our mind with emphasis as to what we rationally believe, we must never allow contrary irrational beliefs to pass unchallenged or obtain a hold over us, however brief. When a rational conviction has been arrived at, it is necessary to dwell upon it, to follow out its consequences.
